How are Fees and Taxes Calculated?

Tickit's fees are calculated based on the total price to be paid by the ticket buyer. For example, if you listed a ticket for sale for $100 and charged $5 tax then Tickit's fees would be calculated based on $105.

Using our Primary plan pricing (2.0% + $0.25) the fees for that ticket would be calculated as follows:

Ticket Total 
+ (Ticket Total * Fee Percent) 
+ Fee Base 
= Purchase Price 

This expands to:

$105 + $2.10 + $0.25 = $107.35

Why doesn't the tax amount match the percentage exactly on sales reports?

We round the amount of tax to the nearest penny as soon as an order is received. In some cases this can lead to the amount of tax collected differing over time as more orders are received.

For example, if you sold a ticket for $9.99 and collected 5% tax, the tax due would be $0.4995. We round that up to $0.50 once the order is received. After selling 100 tickets, the tax collected will be reported as $50.00 even though $0.4995 x 100 = $49.95.

What about payment processor fees?

Payment processors like Stripe, PayPal, Moneris and Chase charge their fees on the total amount charged to the customer, including all taxes and Tickit fees.

For example, if a ticket cost $100 plus $5 tax and $2.35 Tickit fees, the payment processor would charge their fee on the total purchase price of $107.35.

Do Tickit's fees include tax?

Note: Tickit tax only applies to sellers based in Canada

If you are based in Canada, Tickit's fees already include any applicable Canadian tax.

The gross fee amount is the same no matter where you are located but the net fee amount varies since w back out the specific tax for each province.

The calculation is:

Gross Tickit Fee 
- Rounded(Gross Tickit Fee * GST Rate) 
- Rounded(Gross Tickit Fee * PST Rate)
= Net Tickit Fee
