How are Fees and Taxes Calculated?

How Tickit’s fees are calculated

Tickit’s fees are calculated on the ticket price you set:

  Ticket Price
+ Ticket Price × Fee Percent
+ Fee Base
----------------------------
= Tickit Fee

For example, on our Primary plan (2.0% + $0.25), a $100 ticket:

  $100.00    ticket price
+   $2.00    2.0% of the ticket price
+   $0.25    base fee
---------
=   $2.25    Tickit fee

With 5% tax ($5.00) the buyer pays $107.25.

Fees on pay-what-you-choose tickets

Pay-what-you-choose tickets use the same formula, applied to whatever the buyer chooses to pay.

Why the tax amount doesn’t match the percentage exactly

We round tax to the nearest penny as soon as an order is received, so the tax collected can drift from the exact percentage as more orders come in.

For example, a $9.99 ticket with 5% tax owes $0.4995, which we round to $0.50. After 100 tickets the tax collected reports as $50.00, even though $0.4995 × 100 = $49.95.

What about payment processor fees?

Payment processors like Stripe, PayPal, Moneris and Chase charge their fees on the total amount charged to the customer, including all taxes and Tickit fees.

So a $100 ticket with $5 tax and a $2.25 Tickit fee means the processor charges its fee on the full $107.25.

Do Tickit’s fees include tax?

Tickit tax applies only to sellers based in Canada.

If you are based in Canada, Tickit’s fees already include any applicable Canadian tax.

The gross fee is the same wherever you are, but the net fee varies because we back out the specific tax for each province:
